white lions

Our route toward spiritual evolution is radiantly clear. We all have our own unique individual journey to walk toward enlightenment. Living on the brink of evolutionary change means that new ground is being broken and new consciousness is being raised. Truth is of the essence – we have no dogma, no set formula, no prescribed rules, no false standards to follow. All we have is the truth within our souls. I believe most of us want to follow the light, the path of healing and not destroying our earth, but we don’t have the courage, the lion heart, to follow our individual truth toward enlightenment. Giving in to our fears, we bury our “gold” beneath the false value systems of our societies, and we attempt to comfort ourselves with the notion that we have no power or responsibility for what is happening to our world. The reality is that, potentially, we all have the power of light – the White Lion – within us. The very first step is to overcome our fears. Thereafter, our hearts will lead the way.

  1. Oh wow, aren’t they a gorgeous pair of lions? So fierce and powerful, just as our will to follow our own truth and light should be. Not always easy, but it can be done.

    1. Amen to that, Joanne! Ever since I saw “The White Lions” on Nature recently they have been on my mind and popping up in my life. I’ve always loved the big cats (and the little domestic ones, too) but I had never paid attention to the spiritual messages they have for us. I feel a little lion heart pumping ever stronger in my chest these days…

    1. Yes, I’m there with you, Pamela, how wonderful it is to follow our lion hearts into the light!!

  2. Love love love this quote Barbara 🙂
It’s exactly what I did when I walked the Camino. I overcame my fears, and let my heart and the light lead the way.

    1. Lions are amazing creatures, indeed, Mags. It amazes me the intimate images wildlife photographers are able to capture on film these days. The book dragged along in a few places, but had some very thrilling moments, too. (Maybe it’s just me being impatient and greedy…)

  3. Barbara,

Beautiful! Yes, yes, and yes! Our spiritual path/journey is very individual yet always filled with light, even while entering the darkness, light shines from within.

Maybe the Lion is your guide animal at the moment? Did you look it up?

    1. I think Lion has been one of three spirit guides since about May. The other two are Cat and Crow. The Lion and Cat I hope to post about soon, but I will say for now that a crow has been incessantly cawing at me from his tree post across the driveway every time I open my window or leave the house or work in the garden. From what I’ve read I should be expecting a big change very soon. Most of his caws sound like he’s saying “uh oh,” so I’ve nicknamed him the Uh Oh Crow. What a racket he makes!

  4. I would like to be a “white lion,” who fought with courage and embraced the light. It is hard to face our fears but once we do, there is no turning back. “The reality is that, potentially, we all have the power of light – the White Lion – within us. The very first step is to overcome our fears. Thereafter, our hearts will lead the way.” Indeed it will. Thanks and have a blessed day.

    1. Amen, my friend, we all have the power of light in our lion hearts, which gives us the courage we need to be aware of the part each of us will play, in our own unique way, in the healing of our little blue planet.

  5. This is the best thing that I read today – mystery of the white lion! Thank you so much for sharing the beautiful quote. It makes so much of sense. Definitely sheds light on that which we pretend to be ignorant simply due to the inherent fear. How can we overcome that? food for thought, yea?

    1. It must be true that we all have more power than we think we do – the message of the White Lion. Sometimes we think that the little things we do, such as not wasting energy or water, and recycling, etc., don’t matter because the problem seems so overwhelming. But every little thing we do does matter – we have to start somewhere and fearlessly keep at it, undaunted by the weight of consumerism, waste and greed so often valued in our institutions. I like how the author links our own spiritual evolution to the health of our planet.

Thank you for asking the question, Sonali – you gave me a delicious serving of food for thought!

  6. Barbara, this is a very powerful blog–besides that white lion pawing its way into our consciousness. Just read a similar quote today by the Catholic priest Anthony de Mello. He spoke of fear vs. love. And if we can overcome fear, enlightenment is right there. Lovely!

    1. I love the words you used, Kathy, the white lion pawing its way into our consciousness… What could be more fearsome than a roaring lion? Or a snow leopard?

“If the snow leopard should leap from the rock above and manifest itself before me – S-A-A-O! – then in that moment of pure fright, out of my wits, I might truly perceive it, and be free.” ~ Peter Matthiessen

I’m not familiar with Anthony de Mello – will have to look into his words. Thank you!

    1. You’re welcome, Jane!!! When my grandmother was in a nursing home the last years of her life, suffering from dementia, she had a stuffed lion, about the size of a house cat, she named Darling. It rarely came out of her arms. Now I believe on some level it gave her the lion heart she needed to cope with the last leg of her journey. For some reason your comment brought back this memory…

  7. Sorry I’m late coming to this, Barbara. Such exquisite creatures! And the quote is splendidly wise. I am going to share on FB. Thanks so much.

    1. No need to apologize, Diane – I’m usually late to arrive and respond, too! Thanks for sharing – I’m pleased you also find the white lions to be so exquisite.
