What a good shot! These things kind of scare me a little, especially when I’m with the Monk. I’ve heard of little dogs who were picked up and carried off by hawks (don’t know if that’s true, and I imagine the Monk is far too heavy for a bird to scoop him up, but it never hurts to be on guard!)
Thanks, Debbie! I don’t blame you for keeping a good eye on Monk — you never know. This hawk was so high up in that tree he was barely a blob to my naked eye. It’s amazing what a zoom lens can reveal. The only reason Tim spotted him was that he was calling while flying and then landed up there.
Thanks, Linda! This wasn’t the best hawk shot I’ve gotten. The ones I got in the woods on Groundhog Day were a lot closer and much sharper. But it’s always exciting to see one.

oooh, hello there! 🙂
He did seem to be keeping an eye on us. 🙂
Very nice Barbara! Another award-winning photo from the botanical gardens! He/she is giving you a stare-down.

I only see Cooper’s Hawks mostly so this would be exciting to see.
The markings on the stomach of the bird are unique. Pretty, of course. I rarely see any bird this close up.
Believe me, we weren’t that close. He was just a blob on a branch until I used the zoom lens to see him. He is a very handsome raptor.
