I beg of you, you good people who want to hear stories told: look at this page and recognize the wisdom of my grandmother and of all old story-telling women!

  1. I LOVE this post! Just yesterday I was remembering and missing my history teacher who often taught us history like a story, a very interesting story. I love the picture you’ve put here. Life is all about stories! thanking you, Barbara 🙂

    1. You’re welcome, Sonali! You were so fortunate to have a history teacher who appreciated the value of stories as a great tool for teaching. I always thought I disliked history because we had to memorize so many dates and I have a terrible time remembering numbers. But remembering how and why people did things by retelling their stories is the true gift of history.

  2. The world is made of stories, not of atoms…oh, yes. And it’s also made of people who tell us stories and people who listen avidly to stories wanting more, more, more…

    1. I thought of all the delightful stories I’ve read on your blog over the years, Kathy, and felt sure that you would appreciate these quotes. You are a gifted storyteller, and I always look forward to your next tale!

    1. Stories do make the world spin around! Sometimes blogging reminds me of the “show and tell” days we used to have at school. It’s fun figuring out what we want to share with everyone. 🙂

  3. I love Mary Cassatt’s paintings, and I like today’s quotes very much. With bookstores closing down around us I hope we never forget the importance of stories …

    1. I’m so pleased you enjoyed this combination of words and pictures, Rosie. It is sad that we no longer have an independent bookstore here in our town – sometimes we travel 35 miles to visit one in another town, which also has an art house cinema…

  4. I love all the quotes, but especially the one about history … for of course I believe it should be told in stories …

Another perfect combination of words and artword, Barbara! Thanks so much for sharing.

    1. I knew you would appreciate how history should be told in stories, and I love the historical story you told in your wonderful book, “A House Near Luccoli.” I now have more of a feel for what life was like in Italy during the 17th century. 🙂
