out with the old

…always pleasantly surprised to see me…

This morning I took my last shower in the ugly old harvest gold tub in our bathroom. It will take three to four weeks for our contractor to rip out all the old walls and fixtures and put in new ones.

The only thing I will miss from the old bathroom is the little fish my son Jon painted on the wall right by the mirror. It’s been there for 20 years or so… As I was getting dressed each morning it was nice to see a friendly face as I started my day.

In a few days I will escape the dust and chaos and fly down to North Carolina to visit Katie and her parents for a couple of weeks. Looking forward to some good mother-daughter-granddaughter times. Tim will have to hold down the fort here.

Perhaps soon I will begin posting about all the family history research I’ve been doing for the past couple of months. Change is in the air!

  1. Love the fish! Have you gotten a frame for it yet so you can hang its photo on the wall? Good luck with the rehab. See you soon!

    1. The contractor actually cut the fish out of the sheet-rock for me but it might be easier to make a print of the photograph than to find a way to keep the original. The edges are very crumbly. Yes, see you soon!!!

  2. Its nice to get a new bathroom! 🙂
Shower is perhaps the best therapy we have in our day 😉 Looking forward to pictures from your visit to N. Carolina and Katie
    Have a good time together!!

    1. It will be such a delightful treat to have my first shower in the new bathroom. 🙂 But first I’m dusting off my camera and getting ready to change gears and enjoy being with the little one again. 🙂

    1. Thanks, Sybil! I’m really looking forward to this trip since I was too sick to go in January.

This weather has been crazy! February 2015 was the coldest month ever in Connecticut. This February (2016) was all over the map. One weekend we had record breaking cold temperatures and there were several days we had record breaking warm temperatures. The garden is thoroughly confused, as are we.

  3. I love the picture of the fish and that your contractor cut it out for you.

Really happy to hear you’re going to see the kids. I also look forward to seeing pictures of Katie and hearing about your family research.

    1. The fish was definitely a keeper – funny how we can take things for granted until we’re about to lose them. Can’t wait to take pictures of Katie in her new house and co-housing community. I hear she is in love with the chickens…

        1. “Cohousing is an intentional community of private homes clustered around shared space. Each attached or single family home has traditional amenities, including a private kitchen. Shared spaces typically feature a common house, which may include a large kitchen and dining area, laundry, and recreational spaces. Shared outdoor space may include parking, walkways, open space, and gardens. Neighbors also share resources like tools and lawnmowers.”

Everyone is very friendly here – there is a wonderful feeling of community. My only complaint is that it’s too hot and humid down here in the sub-tropics! 🙂
