  1. THAT is by Munch ! Wow. I only know “The Scream” … Thank you for showing me that he is so much more than just that one paining. I love it and the poem matches beautifully.

    1. Thank you for noticing the match, Sybil – I was particularly fond of this pairing.

In March of 2006 (I cannot believe it was 9 years ago!) we went to the Museum of Modern Art in New York and saw the exhibition, “Edvard Munch: The Modern Life of the Soul.” There were so many of his paintings gathered in one place, some from private collections. I was spellbound. Munch had a childhood filled with sadness (he lost his mother and a sister to tuberculosis) and repression (his father was obsessively religious). Knowing this made his more cheerful paintings all the more poignant.

  2. Agreed, this has none of the despair and panic that one usually equates with Munch. The colors are as clear and glowing as a pane of colored glass; a perfect fit for a living room in an Arts & Crafts house. A composition that blossoms and inspires.

    1. Many years ago Tim & I found a whimsical take on the “American Gothic” painting by Grant Wood, only with the woman replaced by the person in “The Scream” by Munch. It seemed to be made just for us, depicting me with my chronic migraines (under control now since 2006) and Tim with his strong work ethic. It still hangs in our entrance hall. I think we should add a print of “The Sun” to our collection.
