Amelia Island ~ 1

Barbara and son Nate caught on film ~ 4.8.12 ~ Amelia Island, Florida

Another place we visited on vacation was Fernandina Beach, across the border in Florida, on Amelia Island. Shea had spotted some turtles here when she spent a day at the beach with friends. Because Tim is crazy about turtles we had to come see them! This place isn’t a nature sanctuary, and we found the close proximity of nature to civilization a little strange.

We were taking turns using the camera this day, too, but Tim took most of the pictures as I recall…

  1. Oh wow! you spotted the turtle! that’s so special. Vacationing by the coastal region must have been so much fun. I like the name of the island too “Amelia” .

    1. I guess Tim was counting, Sonali! I can’t tell them apart, but Tim is the turtle expert. We had a great time! Tim keeps telling everyone we were on Emily Island and I have to keep correcting him… 😉

  2. Hi,
Beautiful photos, it’s good to see the people out enjoying the sun, surf, and sand, the kites flying fun times for a family.
I love the photos of the turtle that is just amazing the wildlife that is on this Island.

    1. Thanks, Mags. This beach surely was a beehive of enjoyable human activity. So different from Cumberland Island, but these turtles seem to take it all in stride, munching on their leaves as children run along the boardwalks shouting and laughing…

  3. That is one amazing beach with so many exciting life forms. I’ll be busy too taking photos. I get excited around turtles too, just like my son. One of my dream is too see baby sea turtles being released back to the sea in one of the State parks. Beautiful photos with lots of happy smiles. take care my friend.

    1. I think Tim shares your dream of seeing baby turtles find their way to the sea. Mother Nature has so many delights to share with us when we take the time to slow down and start exploring. And taking pictures for the memories – the best souvenirs. I hope your dream comes true soon!

  4. I didn’t realize it was a photo of “our” Barbara. Thank you Laurie for pointing that out. Hey nice to see you B!
I loved the photos – the photos of the bird and the plane next to each other is a perfect illustration of the close proximity of nature to civilization.

I’d also go out of my way to see turtles just hanging out on the beach.

    1. So happy you loved the photos, Rosie! Yup, that’s me with my firstborn, who I’ve been missing so very much since he moved to Georgia in November. The climate is so different there and the people were so friendly – we New Englanders tend to be, shall I say, much more reserved. It seems that turtles are very popular creatures! 🙂

    1. Autumn on Amelia Island sounds like it would be beautiful, Kathy. I wonder if any of us middle-aged folks will want to become snowbirds too when we retire?

      1. Barbara, would you like to be a snowbird? I might like to be one–in the tradition of my parents–but my husband so much likes the snow & ice fishing.

        1. At this stage of my life I’m not a big fan of heat and humidity and blazing sushine and I much prefer the change of seasons up north here. But if I start getting sensitive to the cold like many elderly ones do, it might then seem like a more appealing lifestyle. 🙂

  5. Barbara, so good to see you! You’re not really a dragon fly! 😉

I understand fully why Tim wanted to see the turtles. I would go into raptures over seeing them myself! They are so gorgeous. And I love the kite/bird/aeroplane shots. 🙂

    1. I think I was a dragonfly in a former life, Joanne! 🙂 And I’m pretty sure Tim was a turtle, although he would deny it vehemently!! 🙂 Happy you enjoyed the pictures!
