a sacred gift

The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind is a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift.
~ Albert Einstein

The metaphoric mind includes rationality, linearity, and logic – for it created them. But like some children, the rational mind often seems embarrassed by the presence of its parents.

  1. Good Morning,

    Beautiful!

Einstein’s words have been coming up lately… The science and God merging or being understood are One in the same is an awakened experience!

  2. I agree, beautiful! Madeleine L’Engle’s book, “Walking on Water, Reflections on Faith and Art” is a favorite. She saw no conflict between science and faith. Her view of God’s love and mercy was grand. Thanks, Ellen

    1. Madeleine L’Engle sounds like an interesting author – I haven’t read any of her books yet so I added the one you mentioned here to my wish list. The “conflict” between science and spirit was always a matter of heated debate in my childhood family and it has only been recently that I’ve embraced them together and have found true peace of mind.

  3. Hi,
I love the picture of Einstein’s Vision that is magnificent, very well chosen. It’s incredible the about of Einstein’s quotes that are still being used today, and all are very relevant.

    1. Einstein was very wise and humble, too. I remember reading somewhere that in his day he was as popular as rock stars are in our day. Yet he did not enjoy the limelight.

    1. Thanks, Laurie!

This morning I was busy deleting all the spam in the spam folder here when suddenly I did a double-take. I thought I saw your avatar and stopped deleting just in time to rescue your comment! What it was doing with all the other spam is beyond me – I hope I haven’t inadvertently deleted any other valid comments!!! The mysteries of technology…

  4. I just read those words of Einstein’s this morning; in fact, I intended to incorporate them into my post! Synchronicity at work. I love how you melded the inspiring words with the gorgeous image.

    1. Oh how I love synchronicity! It happens all the time when I see an image and think of a quote, or read a quote and go looking for a compatible image… Thanks for liking the combination, Melissa! Going to see if I can find your post…

  5. This is so true, Barbara. Wanting always to honor that deeper intuition and not so much that other rational mind which usurped the throne some time ago. LOL!

    1. 🙂 Our metaphoric minds certainly have their hands full *minding* the usurping rational minds they’ve given birth to!

    1. “Nova” is a wonderful program, that one and “Nature” are the PBS programs I look forward to seeing, when I can stay awake that long!

  6. Ohh I love the Einstein quote, and picture. And all the comments – Rumpy drummond? is the Nova cosmos series currently on TV or did you get it from netflix?

I’ve only read Madeleine L’Engle’s Wrinkle in time trilogy and didn’t realize she’d written “grown-up” books like “Walking on Water, Reflections on Faith and Art”. thank you Ellen for telling us about it. I wonder whether it’s still in print?

    1. Glad you liked the quotes, image, and comments too, Rosie! “Walking on Water, Reflections on Faith and Art” is available at Amazon.com.

  7. Yes, “Walking on Water” is still in print. It might be in many local libraries too. I saw it at ours in Sheboygan, WI, in the area where they have lots of books about writing. The official website for Madeleine was just updated.

  8. What a beautiful post – the perfect combination of words and image. Re the interesting comments here, iI too am heartened by the new popularity of the connections between science and spirit. Albert Schweitzer was another spiritually aware scientist. First a musician, then a minister, then a doctor. His book Reverence for Life is a classic. I’m a big Madelaine L’Engle fan too – her Wrinkle in Time is an early exploration of quantum physics and spirituality in a children’s book, and worth reading for adults too 🙂 Thanks for such an interesting and inspiring post!

    1. Welcome to my blog, Lynn, and I’m sorry it took me so long to notice your kind comment! I have just put the Albert Schweitzer book you mentioned on my wish list – it sounds like the kind of book I love reading. 🙂 Enjoyed my visit to your blog and found it to be very inspiring!
