batten down the hatches!

Hurricane Irene from the International Space Station

Here’s today’s predicted path for Irene — she seems to be weakening, but we’re still expecting high winds and heavy rains, forces to be reckoned with!

It’s very muggy and foggy outside now, and there is a light misty rain. We’re likely to lose power overnight, but if we don’t I’ll post an update tomorrow morning. All is very quiet…

  1. this morning here it is just overcast. Sister went to load up on food stuff, etc. bought water and have filled bottles to freeze… Picked up the yard as much as possible.
I am glad to see things have slowed down a bit… wind and rain…
Holding you all in my thoughts!

  2. Batten down those hatches! I’ve been very interested to look at the NYC maps which show about possible flooding. Kiah’s apartment is in the flooding zone, but only in the case of a major hurricane. Glad she’s home with us now… Stay safe! Know we’re thinking about you…

    1. Thank you, Kathy! Larisa was unimpressed with the storm in the city – she said it “drizzled for a few hours…” But yesterday she took the train to Stamford, CT, where she had left her car at a friend’s house and found a high water line half way up her tires! Then she started driving through the state and was astonished at the number of trees downed…

    1. Thank you, Mags! It was down to a tropical storm by the time it reached us, but the tree and property damage from wind and rain was significant. We were really lucky here because out little “city” has its own little power company, so we usually get power back well ahead of everyone else in the area.

    1. Thank you, Melissa! Creating the posts was a welcome distraction from the anxiety I was feeling. It helps to have something to do after preparations are in place – other than fretting about what might happen. 🙂
