Summer ends, and Autumn comes, and he who would have it otherwise would have high tide always and a full moon every night; and thus he would never know the rhythms that are at the heart of life. There is a time of sprouting, a time of growth, and a time of harvest, and all are part of the greater whole. There comes the time now to savor the harvest, to pause and know another year not yet brought to full finality.

(Sundial of the Seasons)
Great pairing for today Barbara. The painting reminds me of my Aspen CO yesteryears. A change of season brings me a feeling of hope for relief from the heat. 🍂Welcome Autumn 🍂
Thank you, Teri! I’ve never been to Colorado but pictures I’ve seen of its quaking aspens in the fall have always enchanted me. 🍂 I hope the shift in seasonal energy brings you the relief you’re dreaming of. 🍂
I do need to pick up a Hal Borland book at the library. It’s been a long while. 🙂
I’m lucky to have one of his books on my shelves but it might be worth a trip to the library to borrow a different one. 🙂 🍂
I ordered the one you quoted, but there were a lot to choose from. Some good winter reading ahead. 🙂
Enjoy! Much to my surprise and disappointment it turns out our library has no Hal Borland books at all. 🙁
Well, he was a ‘Yankee’ after all! 😉
That passage is so true Barbara and the painting is just like it looks now – some green, but no vibrant colors yet, but leaves landing on the ground already. It’s sad to see it turn to Fall, but I welcome the coolness and crisp air as do you.
We seem to be about a month behind your area and the scene in this painting – it’s still very much summer outside here. 🙁 But my patience will be rewarded next month, and then we will get the cool, crisp air. 🙂 Gradually getting used to the rhythm of the seasons down here.
The rain never materialized today – the only time it has rained in the last two days, after they said two solid days of rain, was the two hours the generator tech was here for the tune-up. 🙁 The meteorologist says we need some cool weather for the leaves to get vibrant and that won’t be for another week. Crazy weather Barbara. We have rain tomorrow and Thursday (Thursday morning is the furnace tune-up … it will pour Thursday a.m. they say and the furnace won’t be on for a while – I was surprised I had it on the end of August which was a first.) Our seasons have strayed so far from the norm!
We’re supposed to be getting some needed rain at the end of this week. Our August was the coolest here in over 30 years, the meteorologists say. That, after July being the hottest month on record. I guess nothing should surprise us any more!
Wonderful quote and a lovely painting, Barbara. I enjoy summer, but this one’s been a real bear with all its heat, humidity, and drought. So yes, bring on Autumn!!
Thank you, Debbie! As they say, variety is the spice of life. 🙂 We look forward to the pros of the next season when we grow tired of the cons of the passing season. 🍂
“…time now to savor the harvest…”
That is exactly why I like fall so much. I’m good at savoring.
