  1. What a beautiful and expressive face you’ve captured here Barbara. And those ears are at attention. 🙂 I’m wondering if she is pregnant as she looks a little heavy in the midsection and perhaps enjoying this chance to take a load off her feet.

    1. I had the same thoughts and was wondering if she might decide to give birth there in that spot. I opened the drapes in the morning and saw her body lying down between the trees. So I got the camera and went out onto the deck where I could see her head and was amazed that she just stayed put and kept an eye on me. She was so pretty! 🙂

      1. She was grateful for the shade in this heat. Wouldn’t you have looked twice later in the day to see a fawn or two by her side? I was in the woods one day and saw a deer lying down under the trees and she didn’t move. She wasn’t looking at me, just straight ahead and obstructed by bushes, but I thought it was odd too. In this heat, carrying one or two fawns, it would be a real hardship on a doe I would think.

        1. Last year it was June 11 when a doe brought her fawn close to the house and I got a nice picture of it. This year we haven’t seen any fawns in the yard yet and I wonder why. We’ve seen a few along the road when we’ve been out and about, though. This heat has got to be so hard on all the creatures out there. Even the squirrels seem to be hiding out somewhere else.

          1. I always remember how shortly after you moved to North Carolina, you gave the inquisitive fawn a handful of blueberries after it was looking in the window at you. I was envious you could do that as I have been known to walk miles inside Lake Erie Metropark and I don’t see a single deer and they have plenty there. I feel for all the animals enduring this heat wave too.

I follow David Attenborough on Facebook and he lives in the UK and enduring this heat wave over there. He posted a photo of a squirrel that fell asleep over the rim of a bowl of water that he had put out. It made me tear up thinking of my squirrels when I saw this one because the poor thing was so hot and so glad for some water, but was just exhausted. Maybe it took sips and just knowing the water was there and meant for it allowed it to shut its eyes.

    1. You’re welcome, Jet. It was a thrill to open the drapes in the morning and see her there, so close.
