“The Apple Pickers” by Camille Pissarro

The breezes taste
Of apple peel.
The air is full
Of smells to feel –

Ripe fruit, old footballs,
Drying grass,
New books and blackboards
Chalk in class.

The bee, his hive
Well-honey, hums
While Mother cuts
Chrysanthemums.

Like plates washed clean
With suds, the days
Are polished with
A morning haze.

    1. It’s nice to know you enjoyed the poem, Val! 🙂 Unbearable summer heat and humidity has returned here, but the weather people are predicting a fall-like weekend coming tomorrow…

  1. We have many Apple orchards here in Nova Scotia. The painting is called “Apple Pickers” but I was still surprised by how little the apple tree figured into the painting. A very interesting composition. I love the woman eating the apple …

    1. How is your apple crop this year, Sybil? We’re having a bounty harvest because our drought is finally over. One must eat at least one apple while picking them in the orchard! And several trips to B. F. Clyde’s Cider Mill is essential! 🙂
