“Queen Guinevere’s Maying” by John Maler Collier
Child of the pure unclouded brow
And dreaming eyes of wonder!
Though time be fleet and I and thou
Are half a life asunder,
Thy loving smile will surely hail
The love-gift of a fairy tale.

Thank you for the beautiful blessing, Jeff! May your May Day be full of joy and wonder!
Happy May Day Barbara! And thank you for the reminder to take a moment and really be part of this day. Such a long history of celebration and ritual and blessings. Beautiful.
Thank you, Colleen! I hope you had a lovely May Day! We were in Virginia this year so we missed greeting the dawn with our local Morris dancers and the May Pole in the afternoon – it wasn’t quite the same!
Hi Barbara,
I absolutly love the photo of Queen Guinevere, and how good is that carving, just wonderful. Happy May Day.
I’m pretty sure “Queen Guinevere’s Maying” is a painting – some paintings are so realistic they seem like photos! I hope yo had a happy May Day, too! :)
Gorgeous post, Barbara. Thank you!
(And by the way, I’ve tried Morris Dancing. It’s very exhausting!)
You’re welcome, Val! We’ve never tried Morris Dancing but Tim’s late father founded and was part of a group in New York City for many years. If I can locate some pictures of him dancing one of these days I’ll post them!

I love the Green Man statue, but not sure I would want to discover it accidentally late at night!
Stumbling across the Green Man in the dark would be a little disconcerting, to say the least!
