Woody Guthrie ~ Centennial

The original singer-songwriter, Woodrow Wilson “Woody” Guthrie (July 14, 1912 – October 3, 1967) would have been 100 years old today.  From the moment my dad first heard Woody on the radio he has been a devoted fan.  Heading up north today to visit him and hoping to pull out the Guthrie CDs so we can listen to him together.  :)

Happy Birthday, Woody!

    • Glad you liked the video, Rosie… If I hadn’t stumbled on a link to the video on Facebook I would not have known it was Woody’s birthday that day. :)

    • We had a pretty good time – we even pulled out the musty old encyclopedia to look up information on Woodrow Wilson, who was running for president when Woody was born. Made us wonder if people still name their babies after presidents and presidential candidates or other famous ones these days. In my family history research I’ve come across quite a few people named “George Washington So-and-So” and “Benjamin Franklin So-and-So” and the like!

    • I almost missed this one, too, Sheryl. :) I wonder if your grandmother was interested in the presidential campaign that was happening this summer one hundred years ago?

  1. An American troubadour, for sure! Thanks for sharing the celebration, Barbara!

PS Please forgive the brevity or ‘just’ Likes on your posts (this week and perhaps next). I am in the middle of the edit for my novel’s publication and pressed for time. But wanted you to know that I am ‘around’ and enjoying your offerings as much as ever!

    • You’re welcome, Diane! Please don’t worry about brief comments – I have trouble keeping up with responding to comments and visiting others, too – summer is a busy time of year. Wishing you much success with your editing and with the publication of your novel!!! (Will there be a Kindle edition?) :)
